Comhlámh participated in the Irish EU Presidency pre-Presidency stakeholder consultations, submitting recommendations on how Ireland’s 2026 Presidency can advance a more just, rights-based and peaceful EU agenda.
Our submission calls for a human-rights-centred EU response to conflict, genocide, forced displacement and migration, including stronger protection of international humanitarian and human rights law and an end to the externalisation of EU border policies that undermine the right to seek asylum.
We also call for the protection and strengthening of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) at a time of growing pressure on fundamental rights, and for the EU to prioritise peacebuilding, diplomacy and conflict prevention over increasing militarisation.
On external relations, Comhlámh urges the EU to ensure accountability for violations of international law, including through sanctions and trade measures, and to align trade and migration policies with human rights, ecological sustainability and global justice.
