At Comhlámh, we recognize the role that Volunteer Sending Agencies (VSAs) play in the realm of values-led international volunteering and we are committed to supporting their practice. We encourage VSAs to engage with our Code of Good Practice, which aims to support and challenge, accompanying your organisation’s journey of reflection and change. See below how you can get involved.

We are committed to building an active and critically engaged volunteering sector with the knowledge, skills, dispositions, and stamina to respond to injustices and unsustainability in ways that are rooted in solidarity.
With a focus on collaboration, openness to new approaches, and a dedication to learning from mistakes, the Code encourages Volunteer Sending Agencies to embrace innovation and strive for excellence in their mission to create positive and sustainable impact.

Comhlámh’s Code of Good Practice for Volunteer Sending Agencies

Our Code of Good Practice is a set of values-led principles that provides organisations involved in facilitating international volunteer placements with a framework to reflect on, adapt, and deepen their international volunteering practice. We invite you to explore the Code – to consider the values, principles, and indicators, and to reflect on where your organisation is living these, where there may be gaps in your organisation’s practice, and what opportunities may emerge through your reflections and explorations.

Endorse End Orphanage Care and Volunteering Campaign

Orphanage care is harmful to children and orphanage volunteering increases this harm. We are calling on your organisation to help end the practice of orphanage volunteering and change how children are cared for. Endorse our policy recommendations to support the global care reform movement.

Explore Communities of Practice and VSA Supports

Since its launch in 2005, the Code has been rooted in a strong community of practice, with members continually engaged in a process of revision that connects to evolving local and global contexts. We invite Code signatories to join Peer Support Meetings, various Code working groups, to contribute to and participate in peer learning, training, and capacity building opportunities.
