The course’s four modules offer anyone interested in volunteering and being active for change an introductory framing of ‘development’, a perspective on the interconnectedness of global justice issues and a chance to dig into debates around ‘responsible volunteering’. What to expect from ‘Where Do I Start?’ Course
- There are four course modules in total, covering 4 different topics.
- Each module takes 30 – 40 minutes to move through (excluding viewing of video links).
- Inside each course module you’ll find some interesting reading, great videos, useful questions, interactive activities and spaces for you to jot down your thoughts.
- You can work your way through the modules on any device, either on the move, or at home.

In current times, the term ‘development’ is most often associated with ‘international development’ and the development of people, economies, governance systems, whole countries or regions. But what kind of ‘development’ is being promoted? Do we stop to think about this or is the path assumed? Whose ideas of progress are prevailing? Whose idea of ‘better’? Why does it matter when it comes to volunteering?
2. Thinking about International Volunteering?
Have you thought about why you are considering international volunteering? This interactive resource will help you to dig a little deeper into motivations. It’s not the easiest of areas but digging down is really worthwhile. You’ll also have the opportunity to reflect on some of the different models for international volunteering that are out there.
