Communicating Volunteering
Comhlámh is happy to announce the start of a new Erasmus+ funded project that will focus on the complex and frequently contentious topic of how volunteers communicate about their international placements and experiences in the Global South.
Using global education methodologies, the project will support volunteers to develop skills around critical self-reflection and awareness of social media and information production. Specific topics will include self-care & social media, the many forms of communication, and the relevance and importance of these subjects when considering the interdependencies of power. Our aim is to support individual volunteers and sending agencies to consider all aspects of communications throughout the volunteer journey, and to frame these within the wider context within which discussions around international development and global inequality are happening. All materials produced will be available online through a dedicated, interactive platform.
We’ll be working with Zavod Volontariat (Slovenia), Humanitas (Slovenia), Inex-SDA (Czech Rep) and FOCSIV (Italy) over the next 12 months to create these resources and make them available online for the public. If you’re interested in this topic, or would like to be involved in piloting the course later this year, please get in touch (sive@comhlamh.org) to learn more
