Comhlámh attended the Dóchas launch of the Ireland as a Model Power initiative, which brought together a range of perspectives on Ireland’s role in advancing humanitarian principles and global justice in a time of growing global instability.

The discussion reflected the importance of grounding Ireland’s international role in values of solidarity, justice, equality and human rights. It also highlighted the need to move beyond surface-level narratives of “global leadership” towards approaches that address the structural causes of inequality and injustice, and that prioritise cooperation, accountability and peace in international relations.

Comhlámh believes that transformational change emerges through spaces where people can act in solidarity, recognise our shared humanity and interdependence, and work collectively towards a world beyond injustice. This includes deepening understanding of the structural causes of inequality, injustice and unsustainability, and strengthening collaboration across organisations and movements working for change.

We seek to bring our values of respect, integrity, solidarity and ecological sustainability into all areas of our work, and to act consistently in ways that reflect the change we are working to achieve.

Within this framing, Comhlámh calls for increased investment in Global Citizenship Education (GCE) as part of a broader commitment to critical, justice-based and solidarity-driven learning that supports collective action for systemic change. This is essential if Ireland is to contribute meaningfully to a more just, peaceful and sustainable world.
