On September 15th, Comhlámh Justice for Palestine is hosting a public screening of Women in Struggle, followed by a discussion on Palestinian women’s experiences of imprisonment, resistance and life after release.
Directed by Palestinian filmmaker Buthina Canaan Khoury, Women in Struggle presents the testimonies of four Palestinian women formerly imprisoned in Israeli jails. Through their reflections, the film explores their experiences in detention and the lasting effects of imprisonment on their personal lives, relationships and hopes for the future.
Following the screening, our guest speakers will consider the issues raised by the film and explore the wider structural and cultural effects of imprisonment. Joseph O’Connor, lead author of Prisoners of the Occupation: A Report on the Conditions Facing Palestinian Prisoners Under Israeli Occupation, will speak about the report’s findings and the use of imprisonment as a tool of control under occupation. Additional guest speakers to be announced.
This is a free event, but advance registration is required: please visit https://bit.ly/3Ur3aBX Additionally, please note that the film contains testimony concerning imprisonment, interrogation and ill-treatment.
