On 24 October, the country will go to the polls to elect the next President of Ireland.
Today, we are calling on our members and wider network to join us in mobilising for this important election. If you are already engaged, bring even more energy. If you haven’t yet got engaged, find a small way to start.
Here are some simple things you can do over the next 4 weeks:
- Check the register: Ensure your voter registration is up to date, including your current address.
- Register to vote: If you are eligible and not yet registered, you can do so on or before 7th October.
- Learn about the three candidates: Get curious about the candidates, including their public service records, the positions they have taken, and how these align with your values.
- Be discerning when it comes to election media coverage: Apply critical thinking, go beyond the headlines and try to find the real story.
- Invite friends and families into conversations about this election, making special efforts to include those who may not have a vote this time round. This vote matters to all of us who live here and call Ireland home.
The Presidency carries a unique, symbolic role in Irish life. A place of possibility, it can bring people together across difference, uphold core values of dignity, inclusion, compassion and integrity and embody Ireland’s enduring vision for a more just and equal world.
Talk to people about this election over the coming weeks, get active and, for those of you who can, exercise your right to vote on 24th October.
