Comhlámh welcomes the publication of the IVCO 2024 Conference Report. This report captures vital discussions about the role of volunteering in these times of crisis. The conference was one of the highlights of last year, bringing together global leaders and practitioners to reflect on solidarity and transformative change in the sector.
The 2024 edition of the International Volunteer Cooperation Organisations (IVCO) Conference took place amidst ongoing global crises and widening inequalities. Against this backdrop, IVCO 2024 brought together leaders, practitioners, and researchers from across the volunteering and development sector to explore the theme Building and Sustaining Connections for Change: Volunteering for Solidarity.
For the first time, IVCO was hosted by an academic institution, Northumbria University’s Centre for Global Development, in partnership with Comhlámh and the International Forum for Volunteering in Development (Forum). This collaboration underscored the importance of cross-sectoral dialogue in advancing social justice, sustainability, and equity.
Over three days, participants from across Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Americas gathered at the Northumbria University campus in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK to engage in interactive discussions on the role of volunteering in navigating global crises, strengthening relationships for solidarity, and driving transformative change. The IVCO 2024 Conference Report captures key insights, innovative practices, and thought-provoking questions emerging from these conversations, providing a valuable resource for organisations committed to fostering meaningful volunteering relationships.
Comhlámh extends our gratitude to our partners at Forum and Northumbria University for making this important global gathering possible and meaningful. We invite you to explore the IVCO 2024 Conference Report and join the conversation on strengthening solidarities in the face of today’s challenges.
