This course is open to anyone interested in learning about the impact of international trade on the global economy. Are you interested in finding out how trade structures affect your life and those in the Global South? Are you motivated to learn how you can make a difference by campaigning to change these structures? Then the Comlámh Trade Justice Course is for you!
What is the course about?
This six evening course, organised by the Comlámh Trade Justice Group, will introduce you to, and demystify, the world of global trade. In the current economic climate we all feel the impact of international trade on our lives. The course aims to get you up to speed on some of the key issues, perspectives and debate around trade, and reassure you that you don’t need a degree in economics to have an opinion on these issues!
We will discuss and debate questions such as the following:
How does global trade work? What role do Ireland, the EU, and the WTO play? What impacts are they having? What is the difference between Free Trade, Fair Trade and Trade Justice? How are trade deals like TTIP and CETA going to affect people in Ireland? What alternatives can we propose? How can we work towards global trade justice?
The course will use a range of methods, including campaigning activities, and will be lively, interactive and participatory. Speakers on the course are leading activists, experts and campaigners for trade justice. The course is introductory, not academic.
