In February 2022, Mark Cumming will move on from his role as C.E.O of Comhlámh, a role that he has held since 2013.
Mark is returning to his roots in training, programme development and accompaniment and while the impending loss weighs heavy on our hearts, we know that this new work is going to bring him much joy.
At this juncture, we want to thank Mark for the integrity with which he has led the organisation, and for the unwavering commitment to social justice he has exhibited. Indeed, under Mark’s leadership, Comhlámh has deepened and expanded its roots and for this we are so very grateful.
In spite of the responsibility that weighs on a C.E.O’s shoulders and all the multiple tasks that need juggling, Mark has always remained grounded and clear about what matters. His openness, generosity, tenacity and energy for change have been hugely inspiring, rippling across the network in many ways.
As C.E.O, Mark has also been a huge source of encouragement, motivating and supporting many within the Comhlámh network to dig deeper and go further. Over the past 2 years, this encouragement has been particularly important. From the perspective of both staff and Board, it has helped us through a time of global pandemic and also given us the courage to consider the pandemic as an instigator – for much needed, new ways of thinking, working, doing across society.
And so it is with deep sadness but also gratitude that we reflect on Mark’s leaving today. As Mark himself noted in a message to members over Christmas:
“I am immensely proud of what we have collectively achieved over the last number of years, and I know this reservoir of energy, insight and commitment that all of us hold in Comhlámh will only continue to flourish.”
We are proud too Mark, and grateful for all that you brought to the organisation during your time as C.E.O. Your practice of leading by being led, has made its mark on many and will endure long after your departure.
As Board, staff, member groups and the wider membership, we will keep this fire lit (we also look forward to chasing you for membership dues!)
