The Irish Aid Volunteering Fair

The Irish Aid Volunteering Fair will be held in the Hibernia Conference Centre, Dublin Castle on Saturday 29 September from 11.00am – 5.00pm. If you are thinking about volunteering abroad, or just curious about the different ways you can get involved in international development, you should come to the Fair.

Every year the Irish Aid Volunteering Fair gives you an opportunity to meet and chat face-to-face with 30 + volunteering and other interested organisations, listen to a panel discussion with returned volunteers and participate in interactive workshops throughout the day. There will be information about short term and long term placements in Africa, Asia and Latin America and these placements are all tailored to different skill sets.

Programme for the day
Venue: Conference Room
11.00am – 5.00pm
30 volunteer sending agencies will be showcasing their programmes and projects throughout the day

2.00pm – 3.00pm Protective accompaniment in Colombia – volunteering with PBI
Peace Brigades International (PBI) provide protective accompaniment to human rights defenders in Latin America and accompany these defenders as they carry out their work. Carlos Fernandez works in Colombia with vulnerable populations, but is here in Dublin to talk about his work and his partnership with volunteeers from PBI, and about how you can get involved in this demanding but ultimately very rewarding type of volunteering.

3.30pm – 4.30pm Fundraising tips for volunteers with Mary Anne Stokes (VLM)
Volunteers are often requested to raise funds, before they travel on behalf of their volunteer sending agency, and this can be daunting, intimidating and grim. This workshop will take you through some practical tips, advice and comments on how to meet your fundraising totals, and beyond.
