Mission Statement

The Umbrella Foundation is a family-first charity working to relieve the impact of trafficking, poverty and war on the children of Nepal. Umbrella has rescued over 380 orphaned, trafficked and vulnerable children in Nepal since 2005. Through various projects such as our Residential Childcare Homes, Family Reintegration and Support, Youth Programme and Rural School Support Programme we continue to help these vulnerable children and families help themselves. through projects, which promote education, reintegration and community development.

Application Procedure
1. Fill in the online application here: 2. Read the Comhlamh Volunteers Charter 3. If you are successful you will receive an information pack outlining how the programme is run, what the volunteer should expect from the programme and what will be expected of them as volunteers. 4. Applicants are then asked to reconfirm that they are interested in volunteering having read this pack and they will then receive a 2nd information pack with further information on Nepal and volunteering. 5. You will be put in touch with a former volunteer to correspond with 6. A letter of no objection from the applicant’s local police station, references and proof of travel insurance is also required.

Participants are asked to fund raise €1,000 before joining our 5 week rural teaching programme or €1500 before joining our 9 week rural teaching or 3 month children’s home programmes. Details here: Approx €350 covers their stay on the programme for three months; rent, two meals a day and programme running costs; and the remainder is a donation to the organisation to help subsidise our childcare, reintegration and youth programmes. 100% of your donation reaches Nepal.

Shared accommodation in the volunteers’ house; two traditional Nepali meals a day; activity materials; one shared laptop for volunteer related work; and educational field trips to other INGOs (Charities) and the United Nations Nepal
