Mission Statement
The vision of Nurture Africa is for the most vulnerable children in Uganda to lead productive lives and become positive influences on society. Our development projects provide healthcare and education for orphans and vulnerable children. Nurture Africa believes in working in partnership with Ugandan communities and supporting them holistically. Nurture Africa was formerly known as A-Z Children’s Charity.

Fluent English is necessary

Disability Access
It depends on the nature of the disability, but if a volunteer’s mobility is seriously affected, the placement may not be suitable.

Education Requirement
We offer specialised placements for primary and secondary teachers and for nurses, including under-graduates. We also offer placements for which no specific qualifications are required. Student nurses must have completed at least their 3rd year of training to be eligible.

Application Procedure
Complete an application form which can be returned by email or post. Applicants will be invited for an interview, and those who are successful will be allocated places on a first-come-first-served basis. Places are limited so early application is recommended to avoid disappointment. Contact us for an application form or download it from the website.

Volunteers must pay for flights, vaccinations and living expenses.

Living expenses, all meals, accommodation, local transport, private health insurance are provided for a nominal one-off fee (approx €130 for the whole placement).

In Country Support
Yes, the Volunteer Coordinators who provide the pre-departure induction and training also travel to Uganda to coordinate the volunteer projects.

Pre Programme Training
Yes – 2 workshop weekends providing information on travel, health, organisational policies, cultural awareness, team-building and placement preparation.

Post-Programme Debriefing
Yes, Reunion Day including group debriefing.
