Mission Statement
Lámha Suas is an Irish based organisation dedicated to supporting education in the Mubende district of Uganda. We work closely with the Ugandan Ministry of Education to provide support to a number of government schools in the Mubende district of Uganda. Support is provided by sending qualified Irish teachers to work alongside Ugandan teachers on short-term volunteering placements; funding long-term programmes such as school feeding, improvement of school infrastructure and a teacher scholarship fund. We also support the wider community by recruiting nurses to work in the local health clinics on short-term volunteering placements and also supplying medical equipment.

Pre Programme Training
Yes, pre-departure training will be centred around the Comhlamh Volunteer Charter. It will cover practical issues (such as health and safety etc), overall development issues (placing the volunteer placement with the wider development goals) and specific issues related to the placement (eg gender inequality in education, child protection etc).

Post-Programme Debriefing
Yes, de-brief will consist of practical issues (eg ways to improve the placements, follow up with the host organisation etc) and also a mindful reflection on the issues raised personally while on placement.

Contact with Returned Volunteers
No, 2012 is the first year to recruit teachers for short-term volunteer placements. However the volunteer co-ordinator has 5 years experience of volunteering as a teacher with other organisations and can put accepted volunteers in touch with teachers who have volunteered in Uganda previously.
