Mission Statement
Haven is an Irish non-governmental organisation (NGO) which is strongly committed to empowering the people of Haiti to build strong and sustainable livelihoods. Established in 2008 and launched in 2009, we work solely in Haiti, facilitating the provision of sustainable water and sanitation, training and education, and shelter solutions for its people.

Our vision is to build thriving communities which prosper independently, and in which every person has a safe place to call home. Every year, a group of 30-40 volunteers leave a lasting impression on a local community in Haiti, where they lead a range of vital projects which focus on our three core development areas: Water and Sanitation (WASH), training and education, and shelter. Most of the volunteer projects focus on renovating and upgrading local resources, such as schools or community facilities.

Application Procedure

You can submit an enquiry form on Haven’s website ( ) or contact our Volunteer Manager at to express your interest in the Volunteer Programme and run through some questions.  If you wish to take part, you will then be invited to complete an extended Application Form.

As part of this, you have to agree to adhere to our Standards of Integrity, provide a fitness certificate from your doctor, and undergo Garda Vetting.  You will also have to  fundraise the costs of the Volunteer Programme in order to take part, as outlined in more detail below.

All volunteers are also asked to attend the pre-departure briefing held about four weeks before you leave for Haiti.
