Biography
Brighter Communities Worldwide (BCW) is a charity with a wealth of experience building sustainable communities in East Africa. Founded as Friends of Londiani in 2002, our model creates an enabling environment for communities to realise change.
Our vision is a world where strong, healthy communities can thrive, building sustainable livelihoods and brighter futures for all.
Our mission is to work in partnership with communities, to deliver programmes that enrich their lives and help create better futures for them and their families.
Intro
Harambee is a swahili word which means ‘working together’ and this is what volunteering with BCW is all about. Most years, there are two Harambee’s from Ireland – one in July/August and another in October/November. Harambee provides a short-term volunteer placement opportunity for 2 or 3 weeks in Kenya along with a training programme around it to enhance the experience and help prepare you for it. Not enough time to change the world but enough time to change your way of looking at it. This is a chance to use your skills to help make changes to peoples lives and to explore hands on for yourself an understanding of global development issues. It is also an opportunity to learn new skills

For over 200 years, CMSI has helped to send and support people from Ireland to work alongside the global Church. While the context of global mission and the approach taken may have changed, we still see huge value in sending and receiving people.
We continue to provide opportunities for individuals to visit and serve our Global Partners. We also work with churches in Ireland to facilitate and host visits by our partners.

Development Perspectives mission is “to tackle poverty, inequality and climate change through transformative education and active global citizenship”
Development Perspectives recognises the importance of learning from different local and global perspectives. Acknowledging the value that emotional impact has on meaningful learning, experiential learning plays an important role in all our programmes. The SDG Advocate Training is an 8 month Development Education journey designed for people not only to learn more about poverty, inequality and climate change but to act and challenge some of the complex development issues that face local and global communities. This annual programme is still one of the core elements of our work and shorter projects are designed based on its template. Don Bosco Ireland Volunteers (DBIV) is the volunteering branch of the Salesians of Don Bosco in Ireland. Our organisation provides and invites opportunities for young people and adults to participate in the Salesian Mission – both in Ireland and abroad.

We seek an end to the occupation of the occupied Palestinian territories and a just peace based on international law. We work with both Palestinians and Israelis to bring this about.

EWB-Ireland is dedicated to bridging the gap between academia, industry and NGOs to give Irish engineers and scientists opportunities to learn about and contribute to sustainable development globally.
We do this by partnering with disadvantaged communities, both in Ireland and overseas, to improve their quality of life through education and implementation of sustainable engineering projects, while promoting global experience for engineers, engineering students, and similarly motivated non-engineers.
Our international placement model is an incredibly cost-effective way of making high level technical knowledge and skills available to grassroots organisations involved in tackling poverty. We believe that where strong, equitable partnerships exist, carefully selected young engineers, with the right attitude, support and preparation, are capable of building the capacity of grassroots organisations and catalysing development.
