Comhlámh is the Irish Association of Development Workers and Volunteers. Our mission is to nurture, guide and mobilise development workers and volunteers to work for social justice locally and globally. Comhlámh is committed to being the leading independent voice and source of information on volunteering for development in Ireland, and the coordinator and advocate for good practice in this area through all the stages of the volunteering life-cycle from pre-decision to post return.  We work to promote and support volunteers and development workers to critically engage in volunteering and action for development, and to create societal and attitudinal change on development issues. 

The Communications Project Officer position will report to the Head of Comhlámh. This cross-organisational role feeds into all the strategic areas of Comhlámh’s work. The main role of the Project Officer will be to develop and implement Comhlámh’s communications strategy and to communicate organisational information and events to stakeholders and members of the public using a range of tools. The role has a particular focus on broadening awareness of Comhlámh outside of its traditional networks. The post involves working as part of a team and feeding into the work of Comhlámh in the implementation of its strategic and operational plans.

The post requires proficiency in both traditional and new communications’ skills as well as the technical skills associated with the management and on-going development of the two Comhlámh websites for which we also have external support for back-end maintenance, updates and security.

This post is being recruited on a 4-day week basis and will offered at the Project Officer scale ranging from €24,000 up to €36,000 (4 day basis). Appointment will be made according to suitability, experience and qualifications. The post is being offered on a permanent contract subject to funding. The role is based in our offices in Dublin, but some remote working will be available and likely required due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Flexibility is needed in relation to working hours as there is some evening and occasional weekend work.

Description:

Specifically, the responsibilities will include the following:

A.  COMMUNICATIONS

  • To develop, implement and report on Comhlámh’s communications strategy.
  • To promote and highlight the work and events of the association along with individual projects in order to create greater awareness and participation in Comhlámh’s work.
  • To disseminate information to the general public about all aspects of volunteering for development, including through liaising with Volunteer Ireland on the iVol platform.
  • To disseminate information and run public awareness campaign on the harm caused by orphanage volunteering, including developing media briefing pack on same.
  • To manage the production of Comhlámh’s e-newsletter.
  • To produce a variety of communications material including written, video and audio.
  • To support/advise staff and member groups in their communications work and engagement with social media.
  • To support networks we belong to, including the work of the Forum international volunteering network.

B.  WEBSITE

  • To manage the ongoing maintenance and development of the two Comhlámh websites with the support of an external supplier.
  • To drive the social media presence including social media campaigns.
  • To write and edit web content.
  • To monitor usage of the website.
  • To provide training to staff on new media as relevant.

C.  MARKETING AND PROMOTION

  • To lead on all communications and branding within Comhlámh.
  • To oversee design and production of Comhlámh publications including resource manuals, leaflets, posters, flyers etc.
  • To promote Comhlámh and all its resources on an ongoing basis through the website and at all relevant events. In particular to promote volunteer stories through images and videos.
  • To support relevant Project Officers and the Administrator to promote all Comhlámh training courses to ensure full registration.
  • To promote Comhlámh with key stakeholders.
  • To support Comhlámh’s strategies around fundraising and membership development as required.
  • To represent the organisation externally as appropriate.

D.  EVENT MANAGEMENT

  • To organise various events, launches of resources, research papers, etc. in conjunction with relevant Project Officers.
  • To organise the #FirstWeds series of debates in collaboration with our partners.
  • To organise regular livestreaming events.

E.  OTHER DUTIES

  • To contribute to the monitoring and evaluation of programme activities.
  • To input into planning, funding applications, evaluations and reports.
  • To ensure that activities are managed within budget and report on expenditure as required.
  • To ensure all communication is in compliance with the Dóchas Code of Conduct on Images and Messages.
  • To supervise interns and volunteers as required.
  • To carry out such alternative duties as may be assigned by the Head of Comhlámh following consultation, from time to time.
