Comhlámh has launched the ‘Emerging modalities of global solidarity and active global citizenship in Ireland’ report today. The report presents the deliberations and conclusions of an engaged research project that explored concepts of global solidarity and citizenship, conducted in 2022 by Comhlámh with Maynooth University’s Sociology Department and partners. It sets out the theoretical inputs on democracy, citizenship, and globalisation that Dr Barry Cannon worked with participants from the global citizenship education and international volunteering sectors to consider. The group’s reflections on how to examine, deepen and extend their work on global citizenship are discussed, with particular reference to “acts of global citizenship”, the importance of struggle, and the need to further examine more politicised approaches to global citizenship.
