The Department of Justice announced the launch of the community sponsorship initiative in March this year

Last week Comhlámh had a great meeting with the Red Cross about the new Community Based Refugee Sponsorship Programmes and Comhlámh’s new European project supporting returned international volunteers and newly arrived migrants to work towards social justice Comhlámh has always been about solidarity. Here is a great opportunity for people in Cork to get involved in a community based solidarity project

A community group in St Luke’s, Cork, is looking for local residents to get involved in welcoming a refugee family to the area. The group, which was recently established, is one of several across the country taking part in the Community Sponsorship Ireland programme. Community Sponsorship offers an alternative to State-managed resettlement by instead inviting local communities to welcome and support resettled refugees arriving in Ireland for the first time.

For anyone interested in taking part in St Luke’s, there will be a group meeting on Thursday 16th May at 7-8pm in Henchy’s Bar on St Luke’s Cross. For more details, please contact Maria at maria@nascireland.org
