Comhlámh Information Evening: Volunteering in Developing Countries -Thursday 23rd September 2010

Thinking about volunteering overseas?


As part of its Volunteering Options Programme, Comhlámh is holding an information evening for people who are thinking about volunteering overseas in developing countries.  This short, informal event offers the opportunity to hear more about the issues you need to consider before making a decision about volunteering.  It also provides an opportunity to hear first-hand about the experiences of a person who volunteered abroad and to ask any questions you might have about your options.

Comhlámh’s Options & Issues in Global Development Course - Saturday 16th October

The one-day course is open to anyone considering volunteering overseas for global development (both short-term and long-term). This workshop provides a chance for those thinking of volunteering overseas or working for global development to meet with others and consider the options available. The sessions will explore:
• An overview of development and underdevelopment
• The role of the volunteer in the context of development aid
• Types of development and aid agencies
• Motivations for going overseas
• Solidarity work from Ireland

The course will be facilitated by a group of returned development workers. Additionally, there will be an opportunity to meet with returned volunteers and development workers. The workshop is participatory and is designed to explore the issues in a way that will encourage action on development issues from a justice and equality perspective.

Cost: €30 member / €45 non member / €25 unwaged & student
